A winter trip along the Georgian Military Road to Georgia’s main ski resort with stops at Ananuri and the Friendship Monument.
Georgia is famous not only for monasteries and wine but also for its ski resorts. Gudauri lies on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus at 2,200 metres: the dry climate and altitude keep the snow until spring, and the slopes suit both beginners and freeriders.
Along the Georgian Military Road: the turquoise Zhinvali reservoir and the 17th-century Ananuri fortress with two churches behind its crenellated walls.
In Pasanauri a small viewpoint shows the White and Black Aragvi rivers merging — their waters differ in colour because of the rocks at their sources.
The Friendship Monument — a mosaic viewing platform at 2,384 metres near the Jvari Pass overlooking the Caucasus mountains.
