About the excursion
Stunning Kazbegi lies at the foot of the mighty Caucasus, where Mount Kazbek (5,047 m) appears in all its glory.
Along the Georgian Military Road: the turquoise Zhinvali reservoir and the 17th-century Ananuri fortress with two churches behind its crenellated walls.
The Friendship Monument — a mosaic viewing platform at 2,384 metres near the Jvari Pass overlooking the Caucasus mountains.
Stepantsminda is a small town named after the monk Stepane, who once saved the villagers from an avalanche. From here jeeps climb to the 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church, standing at 2,170 metres right beneath Kazbek.
